Board Meeting Breakdown

The Euclid Board of Education met on March 13th, 2024, in the Board Room at the Fordyce Administration Building at 7:00 pm.

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Board President Gabrielle Kelly, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

All Board Members were present.

The Board reviewed and accepted the agenda for the evening.

The Board adopted the minutes from the February 14th and 28th Board Meetings.

Shoreview Elementary School Recognitions and Presentations

  • Four outstanding Shoreview Elementary School School Students were recognized at the meeting. The students were recognized for having perfect attendance, exhibiting leadership by not having any behavior infractions and being respectful, responsible, & ready to learn.

  • Media Center Manager Matt Frieden was recognized as Staff Member of the Month for going above and beyond his normal duties allowing students to visit the Media Center during recess. He records and takes pictures of all school events and activities and works with students and staff to teach them how to use modern technology.

  • Teacher Nancy Schneider was recognized as Faculty Member of the Month for doing a phenomenal job leading TBT, working with Literacy Leaders to organize phonics groups, and support teachers instructionally. She always has a positive attitude and always thinks ahead.

  • Mrs. Linda Smith, grandparent of Angela T., was recognized as Family Member of the Month.  Mrs. Smith has been a consistent member of the Shoreview PTA and has donated to events throughout the year. She also volunteered at the school dance and has not missed a PTA meeting all year. Mrs. Smith is kind, a hard worker, and always thinks of different ways to engage Shoreview Families and members of the community.

  • Following the recognitions, Principal Donisha Bailey and Acting Assistant Principal Steve Johnson presented about Shoreview Elementary.

  • The presentation focused on three areas of focus; Climate, Academics and Community.

      • Our Vision is to work together to provide a safe learning environment that achieves excellence.

    • Climate

      • Through their PBIS program, Shoreview has seen positive results in building a positive climate around the school. With events like their Gold Medal Parade, Best Behavior Bonus & VIP Lunch and programs like Morning Meetings, the Faculty & Staff make sure that every student receives Tier 1 supports. Students who may need Tier 2 or Tier 3 support work with mentors in a Check-in, Check-out program and work with professionals to develop social-emotional wellness skills.

      • Since October, Shoreview has seen a consistent decrease in the number of referrals issued to students.

    • Academics

      • Shoreview prides itself on Academic Excellence. Through Explicit Instruction, Aplify CKLA, Writing Revolution and Math and Science instruction, students work hard to grow academically, while making learning fun. Encore teachers work with classroom teachers to deliver consistent content through differentiated instruction.

      • Shoreview has also invested in preparing students for college and future careers. School Counselor Mr. Cox works with students to complete lessons and activities that expose them to relevant college, university, trade, career and military options based on their individual personalities, knowledge and skills.

    • Community

      • Shoreview understands the importance of connecting with families and the community through productive and collaborative partnerships. The Shoreview PTA recently held a Valentine’s Day Dance with parent and staff volunteers.

      • Shoreview has also worked with Clearview Community Church and Faith Community Worship Center to help Shoreview Families with meals and supplies.

      • Shoreview will host their annual Career Day on May 16th, 2024 inviting family members and community members to share about their careers with Shoreview Students.

    SkillsUSA Students with President Kelly & Superintendent Papouras

  • Skills USA Presentation

    • Officers from Euclid High School’s Chapter of Skills USA, along with Advisor Nick Selvaggio, presented to the Board about the Career Tech Organization that nearly 200 students are a part of.

    • Skills USA is a Career Tech Skills Organization for students enrolled in trade training programs. Ohio SkillsUSA is the third largest chapter in the United States and will be hosting the state competition on April 9th & 10th.

    • Four students spoke about their experiences in SkillsUSA and the positive impact it has made on them as high schoolers and how it has helped them in their future careers.

Reports and Recommendations of the Treasurer

  • This portion of the meeting covered the financial data of the district. Euclid Schools Treasurer Steve Vasek led the Board Members through District Financial Statements.

  • The Board approved a service contract with Spectrum to provide internet service and connectivity to all district buildings.

  • The Board accepted donations from Linda Knight & Frank Sciarabba and the Wickliffe Eagles FOE #4086 Ladies Auxiliary.

Reports and Recommendations of the Superintendent

  • Personnel

    • The Board approved changes to Certified and Classified personnel in the form of resignations, terminations, retirements, permanent substitute appointments, non-teaching appointments, non-teaching assignments extra duty, athletic duty, athletic duty resignations, and leaves.

    • The Board approved the payment of tuition payments for security officers to receive training from the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy (OPOTA).

    • The Board approved the staffing needs for 2024 Summer School programming.

  • Routine Business

    • The Board approved a service agreement with Peter James Behavioral Health to provide services to address students’ mental health concerns and provide students with the opportunity to learn how to deal with stress, grief, and other important mental health issues in a positive manner.

    • The Board approved summer curriculum work for Elementary, Middle School and High School teachers.

    • The Board approved the implementation of Summer School Programs starting on June 3rd, 2024 and ending on July 31st, 2024. Elementary Summer School will 

  • Miscellaneous

    • The Board approved the scrapping of District Vehicles that are no longer fit for road travel.

Superintendent’s Informal

  • Superintendent Papouras reminded students and their families that Friday is the end of the third quarter and Monday starts the Fourth Quarter. He stressed the importance of good attendance habits and starting out the quarter on the right foot.

  • Superintendent Papouras reminded families about the upcoming Spring Break and Euclid Eclipse Fest, which will be held on April 8th, the day before returning from Spring Break.

  • Superintendent Papouras invited everyone to the Annual Easter Egg Hunt on March 23rd.

  • Superintendent Papouras recognized Chardon Hills Principal Stacie Spears who is one of five nominees for the Ohio Alliance of Black School Educators’ Outstanding Principal/Administrator Award.

  • The Board entered into Executive Session at 8:32 pm.
