Dear Euclid Families and Community Members,
The Ohio Department of Education (ODE) recently released 2022-23 School Report Cards, which provide a valuable snapshot of our District’s performance. Based on the state’s 5-star rating system, Euclid’s overall rating for the 2022-23 ODE School Report Card was 2.5 stars.
However, it is important to note that our overall Achievement Performance Index has increased 13.7 points since 2021. Over the past three years, our district has diligently partnered with the State Support Team to reinforce the K-12 Curriculum across all subjects, implement Explicit Instruction in every classroom, and strategically address each component of the State Report Card.
The Progress component scores affirm the effort and focus the district places on student growth. According to the ODE the Report Card shows “significant evidence that the district exceeded student growth expectations.” The Progress component looks closely at the growth all students are making based on their past performances. The success in this component lays the foundation for improved scores in the Student Achievement and High School Graduation categories for the future.
Additionally, we have been proactive in addressing early literacy. We started the literacy improvement process during the pandemic, eventually adopting a curriculum, coordinating materials, and implementing the Science of Reading instructional practices. As evidenced by Governor DeWine’s recent visit, Euclid is among the Ohio-leaders in the Science of Reading. We firmly believe that our commitment to The Science of Reading will lead to significant achievement outcomes for all students.
Other highlights from the 2022-23 Report Card include:
The Early Learning Village overall rating is 4-Stars.
Arbor Elementary School was graded as a 3-Stars in the Progress component.
Chardon Hills STEM School earned an impressive 4.5-Stars overall rating with 5-Stars in both Progress and Gap Closing.
Shoreview Elementary earned 4-Stars in Progress.
Euclid Middle School received an overall 3.5-Star rating with 4-Stars in Progress. It is also noteworthy that Euclid Middle School has been removed from the Department of Education’s ‘academic watch’ list.
Euclid High School earned 4-Stars in Progress. And the graduation rate has increased by 8.5% over the last four years.
The Euclid Virtual Learning Academy gathered 4-Stars in Gap Closing.
It is important to emphasize that we are on the right track to improving student achievement. We have built a solid foundation and added innovative programs to address each student’s needs – whether they have educational challenges that we are helping them tackle today, or their goal is a great vocation or college in the future. Our teachers and support staff are also building their capacity through professional development to improve our daily classroom instruction and overall school climate.
We take our scores very seriously. We will continue to collaborate with the State Support Team to analyze and present all the data from the Report Card and act to address areas for improvement. In late October, we will address the report card in the State of the Schools presentation.
As a school district, we have unwaveringly high expectations. We know our community shares these high expectations. We have great students, caring and compassionate educators, and an accomplished professional staff. We are seeing daily successes in the classroom because of the dedication of our staff and students, and your strong support.
Our priority is always our students’ success through our mission to educate every student, through every lesson, every day.
Sincerely,
Christopher M. Papouras
