What is the Euclid Virtual Learning Academy (EVLA)?
EVLA is the District’s online learning school. Students will participate in learning most often through online lessons and assignments. There will also be some days throughout the year when students will come into school, such as for state testing, benchmarking, and other mandatory assessments.
All virtual students will take all classes online via the District-adopted online platform, Imagine Edgenuity. A Euclid teacher will serve as the program facilitator.
Imagine Edgenuity is a sustainable and consistent Online Learning model that is teacher-monitored, rather than teacher-led.
Imagine Edgenuity is an aligned online learning platform that ensures consistency in students’ learning throughout the educational experience from grades 1 through 12.
The EVLA facilitator will oversee the learning experience as a facilitator by checking attendance, monitoring student performance, and assisting with learning.
Each student applicant will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis for acceptance into EVLA.
Students with disabilities are eligible to apply for the EVLA. However, the curriculum is a general education curriculum. If a student would require accommodations or modifications that will fundamentally alter the nature of the curriculum, enrollment in the EVLA will be denied.
State requirements for testing, promotion to the next grade, and attendance are applicable to students in the EVLA, just as for all other students. There is a state requirement of 910 hours of recorded participation for all online students.
All students will use district-issued Chromebooks for their learning. Families will be expected to come to the Memorial Options building to pick up and return student devices. All user agreement forms will be required.
Who are good candidates for a virtual learning environment?
Students who excel at independent learning
These students have shown the ability to read or listen to grade-level content, understand it independently, and then complete practice tasks on their own. They are able to think about good questions to ask and know how to seek assistance when needed.
Students who know how to independently engage with technology for learning
We live in a high-tech society, and technology is used for many fun, leisure activities. In a virtual learning format, students must stay focused on the learning tasks, fully participate in online instruction, and be able to filter out other technologies that interfere with the lesson.
Students who are able to manage their time well
In a virtual learning model, there is not always an adult present to immediately answer a question or remind a student to stay on task. Students who participate in virtual learning need to be able to monitor themselves as they complete assignments.
What are the STUDENT expectations for EVLA?
Students in all grades are expected to log-in daily and complete all course assignments.
Students will have required online practice for reading and math, and times of independent practice.
There may be required check-in times with the EVLA facilitator.
Students will be expected to check their school email daily.
Continued student participation in the EVLA will be evaluated on a quarterly basis. Remaining in the program will depend on criteria being met. Expectations to continue in the EVLA, depending on grade level, include
Consistent satisfactory completion of assigned work.
Satisfactory academic progress, as demonstrated by formal and informal assessments.
Recorded time spent in the Learning Management System.
Students will be required to come to school in-person throughout the year for various reasons, including
To become familiar with learning materials, including technology.
To complete required district and state assessments.
To participate in student learning presentations.
What are the PARENT/FAMILY expectations for EVLA?
Parents/families are expected to be actively engaged in their student’’s EVLA education.
This includes
Reading and responding to emails from EVLA and/or Euclid Schools staff.
Email is the primary means of communication for our EVLA students and families. As such, both are expected to read and reply to email daily.
Regularly monitoring their student’s EVLA performance by checking the Imagine Edgenuity parent portal.
Reviewing the weekly progress reports sent by EVLA facilitators.
Parents/Families should attend the virtual orientation sessions.
Parents/Families should attend Parent-Teacher Conferences, virtually or in-person.
Parents/Families should communicate with EVLA and/or Memorial Options Center staff when questions, concerns, or needs arise.
How will Euclid Schools support families of the EVLA?
Euclid Schools understands the importance of engaging with all families. Parents/Families of students in the EVLA will be invited to the school for events such as
Opening information night.
Parent/Teacher conferences.
Family engagement activities at the school.
Our goals of increasing student achievement and ensuring students are prepared for college and careers are the same for all Euclid students, including those in the Euclid Virtual Learning Academy. Teachers and administrators of the EVLA will:
Identify and respond to student areas of strength and opportunities for growth.
Create opportunities for students to participate in field trips, on-site and virtually.
Communicate regularly with families about student progress.
Engage families in the learning process through both in-person and virtual opportunities.

An online application must be completed.
