Keynote Speaker Ian Miller: “You Are More Than Just an Athlete”

The day began with a powerful keynote address by Ian Miller, who challenged students to look beyond the label of “athlete” and embrace their full potential. Miller’s mantra, “Mind, Body, Business,” encouraged participants to take advantage of opportunities, maintain confidence in their abilities, and persevere despite the odds.

“Anything is possible with the right mindset,” Miller emphasized, introducing concepts like grit and self-belief as essential tools for success. He reminded students that greatness requires focus and determination, leaving them with this motivating advice: “You can’t lose if you don’t quit.”

Interactive Workshops: Sharpening Skills and Building Resilience

Workshops led by Emily from Sharpen Skills took the summit to the next level, focusing on mental health, emotional intelligence, and physical performance. Students participated in activities designed to help them better understand their emotions, including how they can either hinder or enhance performance.

Keynote by Lena Harris: The Leader Within

The summit concluded with a keynote address from Lena Harris, an athletics counselor at Cleveland State University. Harris explored the 12 characteristics of a strong leader and emphasized self-awareness, mental health, and the importance of acknowledging internal and external stressors.

Students were encouraged to rethink their understanding of mental health, moving beyond common associations like depression and anxiety to recognize the importance of emotional balance and self-care. Harris reminded participants, “We are all human,” and urged them to prioritize their well-being as part of their leadership journey.
